Trustees

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

This month we are continuing the information series on the active committees within our church by highlighting the Trustees.

The Trustees supervise and maintain all property belonging to the congregation so that the ministries of the congregation can be effective.  Basic responsibilities include:

*    oversee, maintain and supervise all local church property

*    report annually to the charge conference on the state of the church’s property, equipment, investments and resources

*    receive and administer all gifts made to the congregation

*    ensure that the articles of incorporation of the congregation are kept up-to-date

*    be responsible , in con-junction with the pastor, for all use of the church buildings and grounds

*    maintain adequate insurance coverage on all church property and develop appropriate risk management policies

*    submit to the committee on finance the annual budget requests for insurance, property maintenance and improvement, and new property purchases

*    be accountable to charge conference and to the church council.

The Trustees consists of not more than 9 members nor fewer than 3 members.  At least 1/3 shall be lay-women, 1/3 laymen, and 2/3 must be members of the United Methodist Church. They are nominated by the lay leadership committee and elected by the charge conference to serve a term of up to three years.  Meetings are held as often as necessary but at least once a quarter.
